Employee Profile

Clarence Riehl

Superintendent

For the Riehl family, working for Clark Builders has become a family affair. Clarence stepped forward in the early 90s, when the company was doing lots of work overseas and needed foremen who'd been there, done that. Clark Builders cut back its overseas work as Alberta's economy heated up, but Clarence remains a gypsy, often away from home for months at a time. He loves the work. "I just can't believe people pay me for doing this." When his two sons showed an aptitude for carpentry, Clark Builders helped fund their apprenticeships. Both sons have played the field since, but keep coming back, appreciating a firm where the time cards are not manipulated to avoid overtime; where safety is not compromised to save costs. "They say there's no comparison," Clarence says, and that says a lot about the team Andy Clark and his colleagues have built. "People here care about quality: quality of construction; quality of the service they give to their clients; and, quality of life that they give to the people who work for them."

Having run his own business for 18 years, he enjoys being part of a larger team. "I don't have to do the estimating, pay the bills, phone the engineers. And I have a place to go for advice and counsel if I need it."

Clarence Riehl, Clark Builders Superintendent

I've had offers from other companies, but I want to spend the rest of my life with Clark. They just treat people the way they should be treated.
