Clark Builders Named One of the 50 Best Employers in Canada

As a privately-held organization, Clark Builders' commitment to employees through its internal Clark Builders University and employee share ownership plan were what set it apart from the program's other applicants and helped them to become one of only ten per cent of first-time applicants to win the prestigious nod. Also attributing to the win was Clark Builders' strong tactical plan with set priorities for growth which is supported by an external Board of Directors. The executive leadership team is thrilled with the future growth of the company. “Our philosophy has remained consistent over our past 34 years in business. We’re a people company that just happens to be really good at construction,” said Paul Verhesen, President. The award was announced on October 21, 2008 in Calgary. “We were really honoured to be included in such company. This goes to show the collective strength of our wonderful team,” said CEO Andrew Clark after the win. Verhesen echoed the same sentiment after receiving the award: “This award speaks volumes about the calibre of the staff and partners we have in both the field and the office.” The three have also been selected to receive a special citation in honour of Construction Innovation at the National banquet on November 26, 2008. Established in 1993, the Canada's 50 Best Managed Companies is a national awards program, recognizing Canadian companies that have implemented world-class business practices and created value in innovative ways. Applications are reviewed by an independent judging panel that evaluates how companies address various business challenges, including new technologies, globalization, brand management, leadership, leveraging and developing core competencies, designing information systems and hiring the right talent to facilitate growth.
Much to their delight and surprise, Andrew Clark, Bill Giebelhaus, and Paul Verhesen are now the proud owners of some wonderful hardware. The three, on behalf of Clark Builders, received the nod for Ernst & Young's Entrepreneur Of The Year Prairies 2008 in the Real Estate/Construction/Financial Services category. The premiere award for entrepreneurial spirit across the globe, the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year award was initiated in 1994 to recognize the vision, leadership, and achievements of successful leaders in private business. Since its inception, the program has grown to recognize the accomplishments of recipients across 50 countries. 
In the spring of this year, Alberta Venture magazine asked 3,000 of their subscribers to name their first, second, and third most respected organization in a variety of categories. The final results were published in the June issue of the magazine. We were excited to learn that Clark Builders was named in the top three in the "Construction & Real Estate" category.
