Skills:

Financial Accountant

Reporting to the Controller, the Financial Accountant will be responsible for full cycle accounting and financial statement preparation. Additionally, this position will facilitate other compliance tasks including but not limited to: corporate taxes, G.S.T and bank reporting.

Reporting to the Director of Corporate Safety, the Safety Manager ensures an effective safety and loss prevention program is implemented on all job sites. This includes ensuring all workers are adequately trained to do their work safely. The ongoing objective is to maintain a high level of safety performance on all Clark Builders projects.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Day to day management of, but not limited to:

Promotes acceptance of sound safety practices and encourages full participation of all company personnel.
Develops safe work procedures and circulates rules and regulations governing the workplace.
Implements a system of planned inspection of projects, equipment, materials and operations to determine the existence of and correct unsafe conditions and practices.
Solves safety related problems on the work site.
Immediately deals with identified problems by giving specific instructions/advice for the correction of the problem(s) to the Project Manager, Superintendent, Foreman or worker as appropriate. If the incident is potentially dangerous to life, health, or property the Safety Manager must take immediate action, which may include stopping the work until the problem is corrected. Document all disciplinary and corrective action by using an appropriate form (e.g. Worksite Inspection Report, Cleanup Notification, Notice of Worker Discipline) or at least making diary notations regarding the incident and actions taken.
Participates in Hazard Assessments. Ensures workers have a thorough knowledge of the potential hazards on site and takes the precautions necessary to guard against them.
Participates in updating the site Hazard Assessment as the scope and nature of the project changes.
Assists the Superintendent in the Investigation, or reviews reports, of all incidents, accidents or near misses. Submits reports, complete with recommendations for improvements, to the Project Manager or designate. All incidents must be reported to the Safety Manager as soon as possible.
Ensures subcontractors are in compliance with Clark Builders’ safety policies and regulation (e.g. attend tool box meetings, site orientation, safety meetings, etc.).
Working with Director of Corporate Safety to audit, maintain, administer, improve, develop safety program.
Perform Certificate of Recognition (COR) audits – internally and externally, to maintain reciprocal status with the Alberta Construction Safety Association (ACSA).
Where required, in cooperation with onsite Safety Coordinator establishes a Subtrade Safety Committee.

Training/Education:

Education and experience requirements include: At a minimum a National Construction Safety Officer certification must be held (N.C.S.O). Must be able to teach the WHIMIS training course, be a leader of safety excellence, understand the principles of Health and Safety Management, understand the ABC’s of Hazard Analysis, back injury prevention, CSTS, TDG – train the trainer and successful completion of Safety Auditor Training Program.
