What activities do you enjoy outside of work?
I enjoy staying active whether it’s through sports or through hitting the gym. As well, I’m enjoying the early years of marriage with my wife through all the adventures we’ve been able to partake in so far, with a honeymoon in Jamaica being a favorite. We’re both looking forward to travelling more post-Covid.
What is your favorite part of the job / what do you enjoy most about this industry?
What I enjoy most about the job and industry is how each project is unique with the different teams involved, various challenges each project brings, and the buildings themselves. I find fulfillment in working together as a team throughout construction and problem solving towards aligned goals. Being able to drive by the building afterwards and say I was a part of it is a pretty cool feeling and quite rewarding. I’m excited to see what the future holds as the mentality of more collaboration between Clients, GCs, Consultants and Trades continues to foster in helping create more efficient and innovative projects.
What or who inspires you?
My family is my inspiration. Of course my wife, but also my two older brothers and my mom. They’ve always had absolute faith in everything I do and have been my number one cheering squad. Being an immigrant from Kenya, my mom has gracefully taken on all the challenges involved with moving a young family to a new country and has done it while spreading her infectious smile.
What is your favourite restaurant in Calgary?
The Keg is definitely one of the favourites. Usually where we go to for a lot of our celebrations. The Filet Mignon and the Billy Minor Pie are a must try!
Which of our core values resonates the most with you?
Having a Can-Do Attitude has always resonated with me growing up, both through life in general and through sports (being a part of underdog teams). I’m a firm believer in always being ready to rise to the occasion and taking new challenges head-on (taking the bull by the horns). I’m excited to carry on with this mindset as we continue to build and enhance our communities, to better the future and the advancement of our cities and be industry leaders in this.
