Project Description

An iconic landmark on the University of Alberta’s North Campus, the Physical Activity and Wellness (PAW) Centre is arguably the most modern fitness facility on any post-secondary campus in North America.

New features of the building included facilities such as a sports-related research and lab, 2-storey climbing wall, fitness room and commercial spaces. Numerous sustainable initiatives were included in the project, including solar thermal heating for the pool and domestic water, LED lighting and an integrated solar PV system for use in demonstrations and lessons.

Cladding and metal roofing, self-performed by Clark Builders, included Roxul CavityRock insulation, the use of engineered assemblies, Cascadia Thermal Clip and Subgirt Systems. Also utilized in the building cladding was an air-vapour barrier membrane.
