Fort McKay Elders Residence

This two-storey elders residence serves the elders of the Fort McKay First Nation with 13 single units, two double units and a palliative care unit. The centerpiece of the facility is an open concept dining room/lounge with expansive views of the Athabasca River. The facility also incorporates a central staff area with offices, a conference room, and sleeping quarters. 

Our project team had two major issues throughout the timeline of the project. First, the site had to be demobilized during the Fort McMurray wildfire, forcing a tighter construction window, which was complicated by extreme cold weather construction in the winter. Despite the complications, the team worked seven days a week which resulted in a building completed under budget and on schedule.
