Project Description

Located adjacent to Edwin Parr School, a Clark Builders’ project, the Athabasca Regional Multiplex extension is a continuation of previous work in the region, and evidence of a successful long-standing relationship with the community.

Designed to better meet the diverse needs of the families within this growing community, this extension provides year-round, indoor recreation opportunities that the community was lacking before. The aquatics facility fulfills the needs of the growing community by providing amenities that support intuitive play, health and fitness, competitive sport, community gathering, and overall wellbeing.

The aquatics facility includes a 25m lane pool, leisure pool, lazy river, whirlpool, water slide, dry sauna, and change rooms. On the second floor, overlooking the aquatics facility is a brand-new fitness centre. As a municipal amenity and publicly funded project, this highly anticipated addition required an enhanced budget, and schedule monitoring to meet client expectation. It involved close consultation with stakeholders to meet community needs and aspirations for the project.

This project involved coordination with the existing facility and local school to ensure limited disruptions to multiplex operations and educational programming. To improve schedule, budget, and quality performance for the project, Clark Builders self-performed the concrete scope of work.

As an addition to an existing facility, extensive mechanical, electrical and building tie-ins were required while maintaining facility operations. Complex aquatic features required in-depth coordination with pool manufacturers to ensure long term functionality.
