The Vernon Active Living Centre (ALC), a state-of-the-art recreation facility marks a significant development towards enhanced community wellbeing in Greater Vernon, BC. Designed to attract residents and visitors alike, the ALC will boast a diverse range of amenities and the capacity to host various events.
Central to the Vernon Active Living Centre will be a landmark aquatic centre, complete with a 50-metre pool, leisure pool, hot tubs, sauna, and steam room. A double gymnasium with multiple sport courts, an 80-station fitness centre, and a 150-metre synthetic walking/running track will round out the fitness centre. Additionally, versatile multi-purpose spaces will accommodate a variety of community activities.
Embodying sustainability and cultural respect, this net-zero ready building will feature mass timber in its hybrid structure and mirror the Syilx Okanagan People's culture. The City of Vernon has also identified accessibility as a critical need. To ensure a safe and comfortable space for people of all ages and abilities to gather and recreate, the Vernon Active Living Centre is aiming for the Rick Hansen Foundation’s Accessibility Gold Certification.
In a reflection of Vernon’s commitment to shared decision-making, risk, and reward, the project will be completed through an Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) approach. Clark Builders will manage the project, with our experience in IPD lending to successfully guiding this collaborative process to building.
