City of Edmonton Solar PV Construction Management

Edmonton, Alberta

Project Description

To address the City of Edmonton's greenhouse gas emissions and sustainability targets, Clark Builders’ Alternative Energy team was contracted to oversee the construction of five solar energy projects at various city sites. The projects included the Pilot Sound Fire Station, Lewis Farms Fire Station, Ellerslie Fire Station, Engineering Services Building, and Centennial Transit Facility.

In 2021, the Clark Builders team diligently managed the entire process, starting from tendering engineering and design services. To streamline the design approval process, we utilized a program called HelioScope to develop comprehensive designs for each facility. This approach allowed us to accurately model the anticipated solar energy generation, resulting in simplified design approval.

After obtaining the necessary approvals, we assumed responsibility for the construction and commissioning phases for all five sites. To ensure transparency and fairness, we conducted a public tender process to select qualified installation subcontractors.

The portfolio of solar installations comprises ballasted rooftop systems and a wall-mounted array. These installations are projected to collectively generate up to 700 MWh of energy annually. This significant contribution to renewable energy will assist the City of Edmonton in reducing its carbon footprint and achieving its sustainability objectives.
