Fort McKay Youth Centre

Fort McKay, Alberta

Project Description

The Youth Centre is a remarkable accomplishment that showcases a modern facility with contemporary architecture and an impressive exterior plaza overlooking the Athabasca River. The project was completed with substantial involvement from The Nation who had a clear vision for their new building from the very beginning. The Nation was involved with the self-performing scopes as well as supplementing both skilled and non-skilled labour into many other scopes. The project was completed under budget and on schedule despite delays caused by the Fort McMurray Wildfire.

The center is a safe and welcoming environment that provides a range of programs and social spaces, making it the perfect hub for after-school activities in Fort McKay. The new building includes a movie/gaming theatre, computer lab, art room, recording studio, live-streaming operational radio station, and lounge area — an array of options to keep the youth engaged and entertained. The facility also has a commercial kitchen that serves hot meals in the dining area and deck daily, ensuring that the young ones are well-fed.

Overall, the Youth Centre is an impressive achievement that reflects the partnership established between Clark Builders and the community and provides a safe and fun environment for the youth. The construction and involvement from The Nation combined with the range of programs and facilities, make this center a valuable asset to the community.
