Maskwa Medical Centre

Grande Prairie, Alberta

Project Description

The Maskwa Medical Center (MMC) is an innovative three-storey healthcare facility designed to transform patient care in Alberta’s Peace Region. Located adjacent to the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital, MMC will accelerate access to medical specialists while integrating academic training, community services, and cultural inclusivity.

Key features include:

  • A 22,000-square-foot Academic Teaching Clinic that trains up to 20 resident physicians annually
  • The Maskwa Medical Specialist Clinic, offering treatment plans within 10 days of referral
  • Retail and community services on the second floor
  • A dedicated Indigenous Healing Centre that honours traditional healing practices and the Mistahi-Maskwa legend

Delivery Approach

As Construction Manager, Clark Builders is leading the structural build featuring a mass timber design with a concrete foundation and steel framing, along with the underground parkade and pedway link to the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital.

Community and Cultural Integration

Situated on Treaty 8 Territory—the traditional lands of First Nations and Métis Peoples—Maskwa Medical Center is being developed in partnership with local Indigenous communities. The project not only prioritizes cultural inclusion in care delivery but also fosters career pathways for Indigenous students through collaboration with Northwestern Polytechnic.
