One of the finest remaining art deco structures in Canada, the Federal Building is a political icon and historical landmark in Edmonton. The building was originally designed in 1939, constructed in 1950 and a well-deserving rejuvenation candidate. The 10-storey Tyndal stone structure was renovated to address space pressures, offer expanded parking options via the new underground parkade, additional green space and water features. The exterior column system that was included was self-performed by Clark Builders, with an adjustable Subgirt system and custom tapered FRB architectural columns.
The project was designed to highlight and maintain the historic and architectural features, in addition to reaching new levels of sustainability. The LEED Gold certified facility is an aesthetic masterpiece from the greenwall in the lobby, high-end Art Deco finishes and scenic approach from Capital Boulevard.
